Produced and directed by Stella Abbey.
Thomas Hardy's classic tale of rural love, featuring a poor Tranter's son, a rich farmer, the local vicar and the comely new school mistress was produced and directed by Stella Abbey. Using various but adjacent parts of the village for the outdoor scenes, the large audience trooped from one setting to another as the plot unfolded.
The cast was large, and included a live lamb, many villagers and a group of children, who can be seen waiting to take part in one of the photographs below.
