The purpose of this museum is to record and preserve the evidence of these ordinary lives in order to educate and entertain those that follow.
In the 1990s there was interest in creating a museum all about the local community history. There were various problems with creating a 'bricks & mortor' museum, as you can imagine and the idea of a virtual museum online was suggested (which was an almost radical suggestion in the mid 1990s!). After lots of time and dedication from members of the community, in 2002, the web museum officially launched. Read all about the history of the museum in The Web Museum Idea.
The museum was created and maintained primarily by John Sullivan for many years and in 2021 with the help of Bethany Fowler, it was passed over to the Parish Council to safeguard.
If you have any photos or information you would like to contribute to the web museum, please get in touch with Winsham Parish Council.
The latest changes to the museum are shown below, making sure you don't miss anything.
